Lockerbook

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 1, 2026

Lockerbook ("the app") is published by Vermonster's Pro Shop ("we," "us"). Lockerbook helps coaches and scorekeepers keep sports statistics. We built it so student-athlete information stays with the team.

The short version

  • Lockerbook keeps your team's information on your device. We don't run servers that hold it.
  • We don't collect personal information through the app, and we have no analytics, ads, or tracking.
  • If a coach turns on the live link for a game, the score, clock, scoring plays and cards — with jersey numbers only, never names — are published through Apple's iCloud so family and friends can follow the game. It's off unless the coach turns it on.
  • Lockerbook never asks for athletes' contact information, birthdays, photos, health information, or location.

Information you enter

Coaches and scorekeepers can enter:

  • Team details: school or club name, mascot, level, and season
  • Players: first and last name, jersey number, and optionally a nickname, position, graduation year, and a MaxPreps athlete identifier. A nickname is for staff only: it's shown on the scoring screens and never leaves the device — not in exports, the live link, or anything else the app shares
  • Games: opponent, date, location, lineups, statistics, and staff notes
  • Optionally, the other team's jersey numbers and player names, for staff use only

This information is stored only on your device (unless a head coach shares the team with staff, below). It's protected by iOS Data Protection (encrypted while the device is locked), and you can turn on a Face ID or passcode lock in the app.

Camera and photos. If you scan another team's printed roster, Lockerbook uses the camera, or the one photo you pick, only to read the jersey numbers and names on it. The image is read on your device, is never saved by Lockerbook, and is never sent anywhere. Lockerbook asks for camera access only the first time you scan, and you can turn it off in iOS Settings.

Sharing a team with your coaching staff. When a head coach shares a team, that team's roster, games and statistics are kept in the head coach's own iCloud account, in encrypted fields (end-to-end encrypted by Apple), and shared through Apple only with the coaches and scorekeepers the head coach invites. Each person joins with their own Apple Account. For the staff list, Lockerbook keeps the name their Apple Account offers (if any), their role and when they were last active; it never reads their email address or phone number. The head coach can change a role or remove someone at any time, and a removed person's devices delete the team. We can't see shared teams. iCloud sends the app silent notifications when something changes; they carry no content, and Lockerbook sends no other notifications.

Information we collect

No personal information. The only thing the app sends to a place we can see is the live link's public scoreboard, described below, which contains no personal information. Lockerbook has no user accounts, analytics, advertising, or third-party SDKs, and it doesn't track you across apps or websites. We don't sell or share personal information.

If you choose to share crash reports or usage data with app developers in your device settings, Apple may give us aggregated, de-identified information about app performance.

Our website. Like any website, lockerbook.app is served by a hosting provider that keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and the page requested) for security and to keep the site running. When you watch a game, your browser asks Apple's iCloud for the scoreboard directly, so Apple sees the same kind of request information. We don't use these logs to identify or track anyone, and we don't combine them with anything else.

If you email us, we use your message only to reply.

Network use

Lockerbook works offline. It connects to the internet only when you ask it to load a schedule from a calendar link you entered, when you tap a link (for example, a game's stream link), which opens in Safari or another app, or while a game's live link is on (below).

Sharing

Nothing leaves your device unless you share it:

  • Files you export, such as the MaxPreps stats file (jersey numbers and statistics only, with no names), the printable entry sheet, the box score spreadsheet, or a roster file. You choose where they go through the iOS share sheet.
  • The live link, only for a game where a coach turns it on. While it's on, the app publishes a public scoreboard for that game to Lockerbook's public database in Apple's iCloud (CloudKit): the team and opponent names as entered, the sport, the score, the clock and period, the score by period, the scoring plays and cards written with jersey numbers only, the coach's Player of the Game by jersey number only (if one is picked), and whether the scoreboard overlay is on. If the coach turns on win chance and season notes for the team (off unless they do), it also includes the team's estimated chance of winning, how that estimate moved during the game, the plays that moved it most (pointing at plays already shown, with jersey numbers only), and up to three season notes built from team results only, such as "6–1 this season when leading at half" — never about a player. With the same setting, before the game starts it also includes the start time, the team's season record and last five results, the scores of earlier meetings with that opponent this season, and a pre-game estimate. It never includes where the game is played. It never includes an athlete's name, nickname, position, substitutions, injuries, notes or anything about the opposing players beyond jersey numbers. Names are removed on the coach's device before anything is sent. Anyone with the game's code can view it at lockerbook.app/watch without an account. The scoreboard is deleted when the coach turns the link off or replaces the code, and otherwise one week after the game. Apple stores it under its own privacy policy; we don't use it for anything but showing the game.
  • The lockerbook.app/watch page has no analytics, cookies or trackers. It remembers the last code typed on that device in the browser only.

Coming soon: school and club licenses

When school and club licenses launch, an athletic director or club administrator will enter a license key, and coaches will each take a seat through a link the administrator shares. The license is kept in the administrator's own iCloud, shared with the school's coaches, and holds only the school or club name, the plan, the number of seats, the start and end dates, and, for each seat, an anonymous iCloud identifier and the time the seat was taken. To stop a key being used twice, the app also saves a record in Lockerbook's iCloud public database holding the license number, the administrator's anonymous iCloud identifier and the date; it isn't visible to other users. No coach names, email addresses or phone numbers are stored, and no athlete information is involved. Club plans bought in the app are handled by Apple, and we never see payment details. We'll update this policy again before this feature ships if anything here changes.

Students and children

Lockerbook is meant to be used by coaches, staff, and other adults, and it isn't directed to children or minors. Athlete information, including for athletes under 13, is entered by adults on behalf of their team and stays on their device; the live link carries jersey numbers only. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children or other minors, and we can't see any team's roster. The one exception to "nothing leaves the device" is the live link's scoreboard (above): jersey numbers only, published only when a coach turns it on, and deleted within a week.

  • We never sell student information, rent it, or use it for advertising or marketing, and we never build profiles of students. We don't receive it in the first place.
  • Children under 13 (COPPA). The app and website aren't directed to children, and we don't collect personal information from anyone through them. Questions or concerns: contact@lockerbook.app.
  • Schools (FERPA). When a school uses Lockerbook, coaches may enter student names and jersey numbers. Lockerbook acts under the school's direct control, as a "school official" would, for the sole purpose of keeping the team's statistics. The roster and statistics stay on its coaches' devices (and, for a team shared with staff, in the head coach's iCloud); no Lockerbook server holds them, and we don't receive or access them. The school and its coaches control editing and deletion.
  • Minors' data (New York Child Data Protection Act). Lockerbook isn't primarily directed to minors, and its users are adult coaches and staff. The app handles athletes' names or jersey numbers entered by coaches only as strictly necessary to keep the team's book, with no ads, no sale and no profiling.
  • New York schools (Education Law § 2-d). As designed, we don't receive student personally identifiable information from schools. On request, we'll sign a district's Education Law § 2-d contract rider, its Parents' Bill of Rights for Data Privacy and Security (with the supplemental information), and our Data Security and Privacy Plan, aligned with the NIST Cybersecurity Framework. We'll notify the district of any breach involving its student data within 7 calendar days of discovering it.
  • Parents. If you think your child's information was entered in Lockerbook, contact the team's coach, who can edit or delete it. You can also email contact@lockerbook.app, but we have no way to see or change a team's data ourselves.

Schools and clubs that need a data privacy agreement can contact us.

Your choices

  • Edit or delete any player, game, or team in the app.
  • Delete everything with Settings → Delete All Lockerbook Data, or by deleting the app.
  • Don't want names on a device? Jersey numbers alone work for scoring.

Security

Lockerbook uses iOS Data Protection for its data file, an optional Face ID or passcode lock, a privacy screen in the app switcher, and a head-coach PIN (stored as a salted hash) for changing final stats. Exported files are created with file protection and removed from temporary storage when you leave the export screen.

These safeguards, and running no server that holds team data, are how we protect information under New York's SHIELD Act. If a breach ever involves private information, we'll notify affected New York residents and the New York Attorney General as that law requires, notify schools as Education Law § 2-d and any signed agreement require, and notify anyone else federal law requires.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date above. Before any new feature sends team information off your device, we'll update this policy first.
